Travel Inspiration

A very visual blog post that may inspire you

This is a little misleading. I’m always inspired to travel. I wish I could travel 365 days in the year. It is possible, but not practical. However, there are moments and events that the urge to travel hits me pretty hard.

I am a visual person by nature. I grew up wanting to draw comic books for a living. I am also a visual learner. I retain things much better when I visualize, or I am looking at a picture or a book. The thing that motivates me to travel and specifically to travel to a certain destination, is to see a picture of some place. Like, an over water bungalow in Bora Bora, or a pristine beach in the Bahamas, or simply a nice picture of someone drinking a Corona on a beach.

We tend to accomplish things when we set goals. At least, that’s how I function. If I decide I want to go to Hawaii, then I go to Hawaii. That goal took a few tries. I think three. The first couple of times, things came up that got in the way. The best laid schemes of mice and men, and all that. I remember, after coming back from a trip to Miami, the next thing on my list was to plan the next summer trip to Hawaii, but the job situation got in the way and I had to postpone my plans. The second time I wanted to do a trip to Hawaii, something else got in the way. For real, I don’t remember what it was, but it probably had to do with the job. The 9 to 5 Matrix has a way of keeping you sleepwalking. But, the third time was the charm. I committed, full hearted, to go to Hawaii and after some research, felt that Maui was for us. Come hell or high water, we were going to Hawaii and you know what, we went, and it was amazing. The whole time I was planning, I constantly looked at pictures of Hawaii. That kept the excitement going.

Hawaii. How gorgeous is this?

Hawaii was always high on my bucket list. There are three other Hawaiian Islands I need to go to, but there are other places on the Earth I want to visit first. So, I’m looking at more pictures. A place that is high on my list is Santorini, Greece. That place is so gorgeous.

Santorini, Greece, but, I didn’t have to tell you, did I?

The Maldives is another place high on my list. We will, at some point, stay in an over water bungalow. I can’t see going there and not doing that.

The Maldives are at the very top of my bucket list.

Another way that I motivate myself, is reading other traveler’s blogs. A lot of inspiration comes from following other people’s adventures. At times, you can get a little jealous of other people’s adventures, but I find them inspiring. It’s a motivation device that works well.

Sometimes, it’s interesting information that makes me want to visit a place. I want to go to Ecuador after I read an article that the fact it is on the equator, there are weird things that go on. For instance, being able to balance an egg on a nail or the Coriolis effect where the water in a toilet won’t swirl but goes straight down. I have seen other articles where they say these things aren’t true and they have been debunked, but hey, I need to see these things for myself.

Quito, Ecuador. I want to go to the equator.

My next trip is to Costa Rica. That is already set and ready to go, but that’s not until June and in the meantime, I’m looking for the next adventure.

Costa Rica. I will be there later this year.

What inspires you to travel? Here are some of the other places that are getting my attention.
